New Movie: Gangster Squad

Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin…

…I had you at Ryan Gosling, didn’t I? That’s what I thought.

Oh, dear, sweet, little Gossy, you know it doesn’t matter to us what film roles you choose, because we’d love you no matter what! You could be playing the most evil human being on earth – one who preys on puppies and babies – and we’d still be head-over-heels in love with you! So must you always choose the roles in which you look too deliciously perfect for us to handle?! You’re killing us here, man! Our hearts can’t take this much lusty love! A sexy 1940’s badass cop who kills gangsters? Seriously?! Are you kidding us with this?! And there you go, starring with that Emma Stone again! You know the only person we love as much as you is Emma! Please just get together already so we can all die happy Gostoners! (That’s right, my friends, I just made us a cult. You’re welcome).

Our favorite Hollywood match-made-in-heaven is coming together once more, playing opposite each other in a new film from Ruben Fleischer (director of Zombieland), called Gangster Squad. Naturally, Emma plays the role of the gorgeous redhead and lover of L.A. gangster, Mickey Cohen, who’s played by the incredible, and, must I say, heavily made-up, Sean Penn. (Wait until you see what’s going on with his eyebrow/forehead area!) Gosling plays Sergeant Jerry Wooters, the co-leader of a gangster squad out to take down Mickey, but before he can do so, Wooters takes Emma’s character, Grace Faraday, for himself (yesssss)! Oh boy, Mickey ain’t gonna like that one bit!

Apparently the film is an adaptation of a book that hasn’t even been released yet! It takes place in the 1940s and ’50s, when the L.A. Police Department was desperately trying to stop organized crime in the city. Their main target? Mickey Cohen and his posse. The super-cool specialized crew that’ll do whatever it takes to bust the bad guys? Gosling, Josh Brolin, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie (such a cutie!), Michael Peña, and Robert Patrick.

The trailer looks awesome, and critics are loving its classic, L.A. film noir vibe. Shotguns, swanky suits and fedoras, drugs, sex, action, violence, love, drama…and, most importantly, Ryan Gosling. What more could you want?!

Gangster Squad hits theaters this September!
