Yves Saint Laurent…Oops! I Mean, Saint Laurent Paris!

Hedi Slimane, the new Creative Director of the NEW Saint Laurent Paris

Sure…right when the world finally learned how to correctly pronounce Yves Saint Laurent, they gotta go and change the name! “They” is actually the label’s new Creative Director and pretty much the man now in charge of creative everything, Hedi Slimane.

WWD broke the news this morning that famous French label, “Yves Saint Laurent” will now be called “Saint Laurent Paris,” sending the fashion world into a giant (but still fabulous) tizzy. The world of fashion is practically synonymous with the word “change,” but apparently this namey news was a bit too much for all the global fashionistas to handle!

The iconic and beloved logo won’t change!

The name changer is trying to be a game changer as well! Slimane stated that changing the iconic name was the first step in making the label more modern and “recapturing the impulses that inspired the founder to launch the Saint Laurent Rive Gauche ready-to-wear line in 1966” (http://news.stylecaster.com/). In other words, since Yves Saint Laurent (who passed away four years ago at the age of 72) was the first ever courier designer to launch a ready-to-wear line in 1966, by changing the fashion house’s name, Slimane is demonstrating his desire to make his very own major impact on the fashion world.

Well excuuuuuuse us, Monsieur Slimane.

Though YSL is now SLP (eek!), the new Creative Director vowed not to change the beloved YSL logo, thank gawd! The phrase, If it ain’t broke… immediately comes to mind. Could you imagine how weird SLP would look on a once-YSL tag?! I mean, I can only imagine, since a YSL original has never actually graced my fingertips (sigh). Someday maybe I’ll be able to afford something so fabulous. That is, as long as Yves Saint Laurent’s fabulousness stays intact…

Oops! I mean Saint Laurent Paris. Saint Laurent Paris…Saint Laurent Paris…Saint Laurent Paris. Must. Get. It. Right.
